SAMOP23

From 5.3. to 10.3.2023, Lorenz attended the DPG Spring Meeting of the Atomic, Molecular, Quantum Optics and Photonics Section (SAMOP) which took place in Hannover in Germany. He presented a poster about simulations of magnetic field amplification and electric field suppression in ultrashort optical laser pulses.

In his poster, he explained the potential of differently shaped metal apertures to locally enhance the magnetic field while surpresssing the electric field. These findings deliver valuable information for the experimental realization of Sub-Project A. Next to the inspiring talks and poster presentations of an overall quite young scientific community he enjoyed the trip to the PTB Braunschweig very much.

iStOMPS goes Salamanca

From 7.2.2023 to 22.2.2023 I was performing a research stay in the group of our collaborator Prof. Carlos Hernández-García at the University of Salamanca (Spain). Together with Rodrigo Martín-Hernández, a PhD student of his photonics group, I was performing further scans for the magnetic field enhancement and electric field suppression of different aperture shapes. Besides science, I also had the opportunity to do little sightseeing tours in the marvellous city of Salamanca and try out my (basic) Spanish speaking skills.

Gracias por la agradable estancia a mis queridos colegas Carlos y Rodrigo y a iStOMPS!

Stimulated Raman scattering in the News

The ACS Photonics article published by Edgar Kaksis and Valentina Shumakova about stimulated Raman scattering for the production of XUV radiation produced quite a lot of Media attention. Have a look for yourself at the News page of the TU Wien Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology!

More Media echo can be found at Altmetrics.

Ciao a tutti !

Herewith, I would like to say Hi to all the members of the iStOMPS consortium!

“Hello, I am iStOMPS!”

My name is Alessandra Bellissimo, and I am a postdoc in the Ultrafast Laser Group in the Institute of Photonics at TU Wien. Until now, I have mostly studied the fundamentals of the electronic response of materials. To this end, for several years already I have been performing “coincidence”-type spectroscopic experiments on solid surfaces, to investigate the elementary mechanisms of the emission of secondary electrons. In another project, I am pursuing the objective of studying the complex electron dynamics in metal surfaces, in particular focussing on the collective electronic response—so-called plasmon resonances. My latest project on these subjects is called “TRES-CHIC-ESt” standing for “Time-Resolved Electron Spectroscopy: a Challenging Highly Innovative Collective Excitation Study” (Grant Agreement No. 101022318). This project was funded by the European Commission as an Individual PostDoctoral Fellowship within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions of the Horizon-2020 programme.

I am eagerly looking forward to bringing my scientific background and specialisation in various spectro-microscopy techniques into the consortium. Thank you for having me with you Liza, Sebastian, Lorenz, Hongtao, Lujia, and Rahul !!

Scalable and efficient XUV radiation from stimulated Raman scattering

Some members of iStOMPS published a manuscript on the efficient generation of XUV radiation via high-harmonic generation based on stimulated Raman scattering driven by a Yb-based laser source.

Lujia joins iStOMPS

Hello, everyone. My name is Lujia Zhou. I did my Master course in Optical Engineering on Tiangong University and finished in 2021. Now I am a PhD student of the Ultrafast Laser Group in the Institute of Photonics at TU Wien and joining iStOMPS in Subproject B. My task is about the XUV spectroscopy with isolated magnetic fields from laser pulse collision. I hope that I can learn more about optics within the iStOMPS consortium.

iStOMPS at the European Researchers Night 2022

On 29.9.2022, Lorenz, Rahul, and Sebastian were joining the European Researchers Night in Vienna and showed young and old guests of the public how to build and use a simple spectrometer to split up visible light and understand the colors of gems and crystals.

58th Symposium of Theoretical Chemistry

From 18.9. to 22.9.2022, Lorenz, Rahul, and Sebastian visited the 58th Symposium of Theoretical Chemistry in Heidelberg in Germany. Lorenz presented particle-in-cell simulations of azimuthally polarized beams interacting with metal apertures to generate isolated, amplified magnetic fields. Rahul’s poster showed spin-orbit complete active space second-order perturbation theory computations of Eu3+ ions. Sebastian presented nonadiabatic dynamics simulations using the SHARC software package. We enjoyed very nice talks, poster discussions, hikes, and social get-together.
